A medication abortion, also known as a medical abortion or an abortion pill abortion, refers to an abortion that results from taking a combination of two FDA-approved medications, mifepristone and misoprostol. A telehealth medication abortion is when a woman is prescribed and mailed abortion pills by a healthcare provider after communicating via a telephone or video conversation, or after completing an online consultation form that is reviewed by the healthcare provider.
A recent scientific study published in the prestigious journal Nature Medicine found that 97.7% of 6034 telehealth medication abortions “were complete without subsequent known intervention or ongoing pregnancy after the initial treatment”, and that “overall, 99.8% of abortions were not followed by serious adverse events”. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41591-024-02834-w

There are two abortion pills—mifepristone and misoprostol.
Mifepristone (RU-486) is a drug that interferes with the effects of the hormone progesterone (which derives its name from “pro” and “gestation”, to mean “pro pregnancy”). A single, swallowed dose of 200 mg of mifepristone is enough to end a pregnancy more than 90% of the time, but it is better to also take a second medication, misoprostol, 24 to 48 hours after taking a mifepristone pill.
Misoprostol has many beneficial effects on the human body, including preventing and treating stomach ulcers and slowing or stopping bleeding after a miscarriage, abortion, or natural birth. When taken 24 to 48 hours after a single dose of mifepristone, misoprostol increases mifepristone’s effectiveness in medication abortions to 96-98% while also decreasing the severity of the cramps and the amount of bleeding caused by a medication abortion. Misoprostol is taken by placing 2 or 4 pills (200mcg each) in your mouth (between your tongue and cheek, or under your tongue) and waiting 20-30 minutes to let the pill dissolve. The medication is absorbed through the lining of your mouth directly into your bloodstream.
The information about yourself that you provide via the online consultation form goes to, and stays on, FormDr’s HIPAA-compliant server. https://formdr.com We will never give or sell any of your information.
